Language Ideologies and Transnational Migration: A Study of Cape Verdeans in Galicia

Changes to the global infrastructure have contributed growing (linguistic) diversity of large metropolises. However, there been calls from scholars explore “emerging superdiversity” (DePalma and Pérez-Caramés 2018) in peripheral regions order fully understand complexities nuances sociolinguistics globalisation (Wang et al. 2014; Pietikäinen 2016). This article, therefore, explores language ideologies among a purposive sample five young adults Cape Verdean origin living region Galicia, Spain, draws on interview data examine ways which multilingual migrants engage with varieties their linguistic repertoire. In studying immigration former African colony bilingual European context, we can see how migrant community are reflected local ones.
